Will Bentley is a Learjet Pilot who customized
and restored Harley Davidson motorcycles for
college money before entering into Naval aviation
in 1974. Will has always liked the CJ series Jeeps
and considers them the last “real Jeeps built –
though any Jeep is better than none!” He became
a serious “Jeep Freak” when he acquired and
disassembled a 1982 CJ8 with axle over, 360 V8
and aluminum body from a deceased nephew
in 2003 as a father-son project. As part of that
project, Will lost a $1,200 bet that each time
his son broke the high school pole vault record,
he would pay for a wheel and tire. His son won
the Texas State Championship in 2005. From
Will’s experience, his best lessons learned from
the project were the “limits of each other’s
patience” and “don’t make bets for parts.”
