When JPFreek Adventure Magazine debuted with its first issue in early 2006, the
Jeep® Commander had just been released to the public for the first time. Our cover
story featured a conversion of the XK Commander by American Expedition Vehicles
(www.aev-conversions.com). The rig, along with its cousin, the Jeep Wrangler,
was shown at SEMA 2005 in preparation for a planned trip to Iceland to recreate a
National Geographic expedition from 1980.
Since that time, the Jeep Commander has proven its mettle as a legitimate offhighway
vehicle capable of conquering any trail. The Commander has worn the Jeep
badge proudly, and its owners epitomize the go-anywhere, do-anything persona that
we’ve captured in the following pages.
